How do you deal with students who are frequently absent? Is there a way to "lure" them back into your classroom?
Also, what are some of the reasons you see that students are frequently absent? What can we do to prevent these absences in the first place?

I, fortunately, did not have high rates of absenteeism in my class, however I think this was partly due to the fact that it was an NPS. It was a small school so no kids were slipping through the cracks in terms of being noticed and they all were elligible and most received district transportation, a cab that would drive them to school. Just getting to school is probably a big barrier for many students. The students with regular attendance problems tended to be the ones undergoing psychological distress, so I don't think there was much I could have done besides reaching out to the family and parents. I sent a lot of work home and was willing to do meetings and phone calls.
But I'm interested to hear others' replies!
