How do you keep up with the district pacing guide and curriculum map? What do you do if you find yourself getting behind?
I remember I used to make a plan for the year, based on the district guide and the state standards, but oftentimes in April I would realize we were falling behind and I would have to speed up. How do you deal with this issue in your classrooms? Any good tips for staying on schedule?

Well, the best way of course is to not get behind in the first place. I would map out the whole year in September, at least loosely. I would look at the state standards, look at our texts, and make notes in a calendar as to where I hoped to be at what points in time. Then, if I found we were dragging on too long in some areas in the beginning of the year, I might adjust later lessons accordingly. I think it meant we did less enrichment and special projects towards the end of the year, but we had the time to get all the basics, reading, quizzes and tests in. But it was hard to do. What about you?
